Nerve Repair

Severed nerves causing loss of sensation or loss of muscle function can frequently be repaired for months to years after injury and still have some improvement. Severed motor (muscle) nerves must be repaired within 6-9 months of injury, to avoid irreversible loss of muscle function.

This procedure is performed under general anesthesia or light sedation, and patients usually go home the same day. Nerve repair usually does not result in complete functional recovery, but often the results are quite beneficial.
