Microsurgery is the repair of small structures in the body that are difficult or impossible to manipulate with the naked eye and is used to repair severed nerves and blood vessels. This technique is commonly used to transplant tissue from one part of the body to another.

Microsurgical tissue transplantation is used to reconstruct difficult wounds and replace lost muscle, skin, tendon, or bone. This type of surgery is done under general anesthesia and usually requires a 5-7 day hospital stay. Recovery can be prolonged afterwards, depending on the type of reconstruction performed.
