incorporating art and the technical sciences of medicine and surgery to
achieve functional and aesthetic goals for my patients makes plastic
surgery a rewarding career for me each day."
Having been an engineer prior to becoming a plastic surgeon, Dr. Schaefer has a unique way of drawing on his skills to help patients achieve their goals.
“My background in engineering gives me a unique approach to how I plan and then go about achieving the surgical or non-surgical results and outcomes that my patients are hoping for,” says Dr. Schaefer. “Medical advancements have allowed us to improve the human body, and I am dedicated to using the tools available to me as a surgeon to help patients restore their self-confidence and make them feel natural again.”
After completing his plastic and reconstructive surgery training at the highly acclaimed Emory University in Atlanta, Ga., Dr. Schaefer joined Midwest Plastic Surgery in 2007. Since then, he has focused on all aspects of cosmetic and reconstructive breast surgery as well as eyelid and facial cosmetic surgery. He is skilled in the surgical removal and reconstruction for the treatment of skin cancers, grafting techniques for reconstructive and cosmetic applications, body contouring using the revolutionary SAFELipo technique, microsurgery, and general trunk and lower extremity reconstructive surgeries.
A member of the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the Minnesota Society of Plastic Surgeons, Dr. Schaefer has built a strong patient base by customizing his approach for each and every patient. It is for this reason that he was chosen as one of the "Best Doctors for Women" and "Best Doctors" in plastic surgery by Minnesota Monthly Magazine. Other annual recognitions for Dr. Schaefer include being named a "Top Doctor" by Minneapolis/St. Paul Magazine.
“It is truly rewarding to get to know each patient and understand their goals, and then set up a plan especially for them,” Dr. Schaefer says. “I have a passion for determining the best surgery or procedure for each patient. That’s what we’re all about here at Midwest Plastic Surgery.”
As noted, Dr. Schaefer’s background as an engineer provides him with a unique approach, allowing him to draw on his “visuospatial” skills and technical experience to achieve the best results possible for his patients.
With his surgical knowledge and engineering experience, Dr. Schaefer utilizes the latest and most-advanced techniques and state-of-the-art equipment. By doing so, he can assure patients that they are receiving the latest, least-invasive and most predictable outcomes.
